Understanding Design

When choosing a watch, the clasp might not be the first thing you think about, but it plays a crucial role in comfort, security, and ease of use. Let’s dive into some of the most common types of watch clasps and their opening methods to help you make an informed decision for your next purchase.

Deployant Clasp

The deployant clasp, often found on metal and leather straps, is a popular choice for luxury watches. It unfolds in three parts, allowing the strap to expand and fit over the hand while maintaining a secure connection when closed.

How to open: Locate the small push-buttons on either side of the clasp. Press them simultaneously to release the mechanism and unfold the clasp.

Double Deployant Clasp

A variation of the deployant clasp, the double deployant clasp features two folding hinges instead of one. This design makes it more comfortable for people with larger hands and reduces stress on the strap.

How to open: Press the push-buttons on both sides of the clasp to release the two hinges, allowing the strap to unfold symmetrically.

Butterfly Clasp

The butterfly clasp is a type of deployant clasp designed for seamless integration with the strap. When closed, it creates a clean, uninterrupted look, ideal for dress watches.

How to open: Press the push-buttons on both sides of the clasp, allowing it to fold open symmetrically.
